No Living Room is Complete Without These 8 Accessories
There are certain building blocks that go into making a good living room – a sofa, chairs, coffee table, etc. But a living room can’t be made complete with furniture alone. In order to really bring a room to life there must be some accessories. And while accessories vary greatly depending on the people who live there, there are ten items that no living room is complete without. For us, these 10 items are:
Nothing injects a sense of life into a space like a vibrant, natural plant does. Plants are so versatile they look awesome in any type of décor or style. If you’re on a budget then plants are the way to go, but if you don’t mind spending a little money on a regular basis, fresh flowers are fantastic. Flowers breathe instant life into a room and are great for experimenting with colour.

2. Throw Pillows
Not only do they provide comfort, layering lots of pillows of different tactile fabrics is an incredibly luxurious yet cozy look. Pillows offer a wonderful opportunity to bring in different colours, textures and patterns without making a large commitment. Pillows can be changed with the seasons, or just whenever the mood strikes.
3. Something Personal
Adding a personal item into your space is what defines your living room from everyone else’s. A meaningful item to you may be a collection of family photos, an object you picked up on vacation, or a piece of art. Things don’t have to be expensive, it’s the personality that makes the room feel warm and welcoming.
4. A Comfortable Rug
Assuming you’ve invested in cold hardware flooring, the rug may be the most important addition to the living room. Not only will this complete your look, but it will add a tremendous amount of warmth to the space. A rug with a soft texture, that feels cozy under your feet makes any living room look and feel inviting.
5. Stylish Throw Blankets
Much like pillows, stylish throws serve multiple functions. You can curl up in them when you’re chilly, but they’re also great for adding a pop of colour and pattern to a room. If you find that your sofa is looking a little dull, you can give it an instant lift by draping a throw over it. In the winter consider adding a cozy faux fur or cable knit throw, and in the summer try something lighter and brighter. You don’t need to spend a lot of money, but good quality goes a long way in upping your décor ante.
Candles, and lots of them, conjure romance instantly. Even if you’re not planning a romantic evening, you can still use candles to make your living room feel more cozy, inviting and relaxing. Incorporating candlesticks on your coffee table or on the side table layers the light in a room, and are beautiful objects in their own right.
7. A Tray
A tray can turn out to be a very useful and wonderful addition to the living room. They make a disconnected group of objects seem like a collection and add another dimension and texture to the styling. Your essentials may be: TV remote, your favourite magazines, etc.
8. A TV
Not everyone will find a TV to be useful in the living room. Even if you don’t enjoy watching TV, your guests might. Plus, these days most TVs are smart devices, allowing you to access a variety of apps for gaming, music, and more.
Still not a fan of the TV being the focal point of the room? TV Mirrors (hidden TVs) allow you to combine style and entertainment in one. This is a pricier option yet a win-win as you hide the TV and get a mirror in return. Another way to hide your TV is to conceal it behind art – When it comes to hiding your TV, a large piece of art is the perfect partner in crime (seen below).
