Happy New Year!!
With the New Year upon us, lets talk about the Pantone colour of the year.
The Pantone colour of the year is Greenery. A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.
Greenery is a fresh zesty-yellow shade that is thought to bring balance and harmony to its surroundings. It’s connection to the outdoors signals consumers to take a deep breathe, oxygenate, and reinvigorate.
“Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, on another and a larger purpose.” – Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute.
What IS the PANTONE Colour of the Year?
A symbolic colour selection, a colour snapshot of what is seen taking place in our global culture that serves an expression of a mood and an attitude.
Decorating with Green
Spruce up a room by incorporating a shot of fresh, natural colour.
Green is considered the most restful colour for the eye. Combining the refreshing quality of blue and cheerfulness of yellow, green is suited for almost any room in the house. In the kitchen, green cools things down; in a family room or living room, it encourages unwinding but has enough warmth to promote comfort and togetherness.
Green also has a calming effect when used as a main colour for decorating. It is believed to relieve stress by helping people relax.
How to Add a Little Green
- Start with the floor. If you want a burst of green but don’t want to touch your walls, choosing a rug is the way to go. Rugs are usually less expensive than other sizable furnishings and can be easily moved from room to room. Opt for a style with multiple shades of green so it will coordinate nicely with the rest of your decor.
- Accessories are key. A few well-chosen pieces will give you a green fix. From simple glass jars, cases and art work to patterned cushions, throws and lampshades. Start off by adding a few items, subtracting if it becomes too overpowering.
- Don’t forget the foliage. Plants can brighten up your space and add texture to the room. Using both real or fake plants will help keep your home looking fresh year round. Forsythia branches, which bloom yellow before sprouting bright green leaves, look great on the console. The Billy buttons, arranged in a light green vase on the table, can last up to two weeks. Lenten roses, have soft green flowers and foliage.
